You are already dolled up in turquoise jewelry, why shouldn’t your horse be, too? This vintage headstall with accompanying reins is just what your pony needs to be just extra enough whether you are riding in a parade or even just walking an easy trail. The leather is perfectly broken in, all sterling embellishments are in beautiful shape and each rich piece of matched Morenci turquoise is in tact. This amazing piece of wearable equine art is being by modeled by Luna, a Red Sorrel Quarter Horse who stands about 16 hands tall.
Maker: Presumed to be Navajo made based on style and design, even though it bears no visible makers mark, which is not unusual for vintage items like this.
The Naja: This silver crescent symbol has deep, ancient roots, possibly originating in Paleolithic times. It was used by the Moors in Spain to adorn horse bridles to ward off the "evil eye" and protect both the horse and rider. Spanish explorers and settlers introduced this design to the New World in the 16th century. The Navajo adopted the shape from Spanish horse headstalls, and began to commonly use it in jewelry such as squash blossoms.
